Increasing Attractiveness in Semi‐Peripheral Areas of China to International Students: A Macro‐Meso‐Micro Analysis
2025-11-19
Due to the differences in geographic locations and economic levels among Chinese provinces, the attractiveness of different regions to international students is quite disparate. Employing a questionnaire survey of 787 international students in ten Wuhan universities, this study identifies the most attractive factors to international students under a macro‐meso‐micro framework. It also examines the different perceptions between different characteristics of international student groups regarding attractiveness in a less desirable inland city in central China. This study thus contributes to the knowledge of diversification and stratification of international student mobility. It offers references and implications to universities in semi‐peripheral areas, considering geographic location and economic levels, in China and other countries.
