Romantic love related relationships picture dataset (Love_Pic Dataset)
2026-08-26
Current picture datasets lack sufficient materials to investigate complex romantic love relationships (falling in love, being single, break-up). Addressing this gap, we developed the Romantic Love Related Relationships Picture Dataset (Love_Pic Dataset), comprising 26 love, 22 single, and 23 break-up pictures. These pictures underwent rigorous validation for relationship identification, affective valence, and arousal level by 114 participants (57 females). Results confirmed distinct emotional profiles: Love pictures elicited the most positive affective valences and highest arousal levels. Single pictures evoked moderate affective valences and moderate arousal levels. Break-up pictures induced the most negative affective valences, though with moderate arousal levels. The Love_Pic Dataset demonstrates strong internal consistency, confirming its reliability. This validated resource provides an essential tool for future research exploring the cognitive and neural mechanisms underlying romantic love relationships. Furthermore, it enables investigation into bystanders’ emotional reactions to depictions of these relationship states.
